It promises unbeatable quality, easy usage, and compatibility with a wide range of lenses in any filmmaker's arsenal.
Moment lent me a copy to test for a few weeks, and I was stoked at the results. Below are my results, thoughts, and a brief conversation on what makes Anamorphic-style shooting so popular.
What Is An Anamorphic Lens?
An anamorphic lens is a unique tool that optically compresses a wide-angle image into a much narrower one, thus allowing filmmakers to capture more data information within the frame. This allows for a wider aspect ratio and higher resolution in the final shot.
These gauzy elite-level lenses create a unique visual vibe with an oval bokeh, juicy off-axis flares, and creative distortion. They're wildly popular amongst professionals because they capture more substantial three-dimensional effects and detail and achieve a unique look incomparable to other lens types.
The creme of the crop.

Anamorphic lenses are an essential tool for any filmmaker looking to create widescreen images.
By squeezing the frame, they provide visuals that would otherwise be impossible to achieve. Moreover, post-production de-squeezing of this footage yields unique characteristics, such as vertically distorted bokeh and those iconic anamorphic flares.
Ultimately, these lenses allow you to get more out of your shots.
See below. This is what a regular 50mm lens looks like on a full-frame sensor. With the 1.33X Anamorphic Adapter, you achieve the same 50mm depth in the middle of the frame, but towards the edges, you can capture the width of a 35mm focal length.
The Moment Anamorphic Adapter uses a 1.33x squeeze to convert the 16:9 video into an impressive 2:35:1 widescreen format. This level of adaptation enables you to operate with a broad array of various sensors and editing programs.
A 1.33x is a unique ratio, and here's why. First, a 1.33x requires less cropping of your footage in post, allowing you to use all the pixels you paid for. Second, a 1.33x helped keep the design as compact as possible. Front anamorphic glass can get very large as the squeeze ratio increases. Lastly, most editing programs have a 1.33x anamorphic default setting, so it's as easy as one click of a button to get an epic widescreen.
Why Use An Adapter?
If you didn't know, anamorphic lenses are costly and often instruments for the wealthy or privileged productions — some equal tens of thousands of dollars, if not more. Not every consumer can purchase an entire set. It makes more financial sense to buy an adapter, enabling us creators to use it only when the project requires it.
Plus, Moment's is ultra-compatible, working with nearly any set of lenses on the market, vintage or modern.
Out of the box, it has a 67mm rear thread, but it also comes with 72mm, 77m, and 82mm step-up rings to match the most popular diameter filter threads. With vintage lenses, the adapter combines classic anamorphic with the character of soft vintage glass, giving you unlimited options for creating epic and signature looks for your project.
Shoot with a Sony, Fuji, Blackmagic, Leica, Nikon, or Canon? All those and many more will work.
Historically anamorphic adapters haven't always been accessible or easy to use, bearing more trouble than they're worth. The Moment 1.33x Anamorphic Adapter pioneers a new path. It simplifies your workflow, ensures it is as simple as a native lens, cuts costs, and produces visibly beautiful results.
