DSLR vs. Pixel 3 Photography Comparison

An image without an alt, whoops

From Sunny Sixteen, Taylor tested our new Tele 58mm lens against her Canon 5D Mark IV. As a professional photographer with years of experience, she wanted to remark just how crisp and clean the new Moment Tele Lens matches against her big ole’ trusty steed. So, what better way to do that than to cram a butt load of fellow co-workers in Moment’s gorgeous HQ office with aesthetically pleasing plants?

We used the Pixel 3 with our M-Series Tele 58mm lens in Portrait Mode and a Canon 5D Mark IV with a 50mm Lens f/1.2.

We had to level the playing field by adjusting each device’s specs to match the other. Both have been shot with the same manual settings and slapped with Taylor’s mad editing skills. Each image you see within these comparison(s) is as close to one another’s tech specs as possible. This includes:

  • Raw File Sizes
  • Aperture Settings of f/1.8
  • Similar Focal Length of ~50mm
  • Same ISO and Shutter Speed
  • Same Edited Presets / Filters

Our results were impressive. Perhaps the most significant difference you’ll see between each image is the price tag of which each gear is valued.

What are your thoughts?

Much love to the Team Leads at Moment for flying into Seattle for some drinks, talks, and laughs to accompany the day’s board meetings and making room for a shoot. It was a lot of fun.
